Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to common questions about Kizu.

How is Kizu different from Google Photos?

Kizu is built for privacy. Your photos are never used for AI training, you will never see ads, and your data is never sold or shared. You own your memories completely.

What if Kizu shuts down?

You can export your entire library at any time in open, standard formats. Your data is always yours.

Is Kizu free?

Yes, Kizu is free to use. Paid plans are optional and provide additional storage, more collaborators, and expanded limits.

Can I share photos with people who don't have Kizu?

Yes. You can generate private links and QR codes that anyone can open in a browser — no account needed to view shared content.

What is a Kizu?

A "Kizu" is a direct connection between two people. When you create a Kizu with someone, you get a private chat and a shared album that both of you can add photos to.

What are Circles?

Circles are private groups for families, friends, or events. Each circle includes group chat, shared albums, a shared calendar, and member management with role-based permissions.

How does the AI work?

Kizu runs AI on private servers to power features like:

Your photos are never shared with third parties or used to train external models.

What is a Moment?

A Moment is an AI-curated collection of your photos, grouped by location, people, or events. Moments appear on your home screen and can be saved as albums or shared with circles.

Does Kizu support Siri?

Yes. You can use Siri to send messages in Kizu. CarPlay is also supported for message announcements while driving.

Can I import from Facebook or Google Photos?

Yes. Go to Settings > Sources to connect Facebook or Google Photos. Browse your albums, select what to import, and Kizu preserves all metadata and dates.

What is the calendar feature?

Each circle has a shared calendar. AI can detect events mentioned in chat and suggest adding them. You can also create events manually. Subscribe to circle calendars via webcal:// to sync with Apple Calendar or Google Calendar.

Is there a web version?

Yes. Visit dashboard.kizu.online to access Kizu from any browser. The web version includes your library, albums, circles, and chat.

What's the difference between a Gathering and an Event?

A Gathering ($9.99) is a single-event experience for up to 50 guests — funerals, reunions, birthdays, intimate get-togethers. An Event ($29.99) is the full experience for unlimited guests with up to 10 stages, a guestbook, schedule and countdown, printable table cards, announcements, and a closing page after the event. Pick the tier that fits — you can't change it later, but you can upgrade a Gathering to an Event for the price difference.

Do event credits expire?

No. Credits you buy never expire. Sit on one for a year or use it tonight. Once you apply a credit to an event, it's locked to that event and not refundable, but the event itself is fully repurposable. If you delete an event before it starts, the credit goes back into your balance.

Can I upgrade a Gathering to an Event?

Yes. Upgrade for the price difference ($20). Everything you've already set up stays. The upgrade unlocks unlimited guests, up to 10 stages, the guestbook, and the closing page. The upgrade is locked to that one event — other Gatherings stay Gatherings unless you upgrade each one.

What happens when my event closes?

For Events, you can send a closing page to every accepted guest with a thank-you note, host notes (lost & found, etc.), and a link to the photo wall. Open registration closes automatically on the upload-closes date you set (defaults to one month after the event ends), so guests can no longer add new photos. Guestbook signing in the Kizu app keeps working past that date.
